The "Flesher" Family Chili Cook-Off!
What a great family I get to marry into! They have all been so welcoming & friendly!! Mimi (Grandma) has always been "loud" about letting everyone know she is gaining a new granddaughter!! Thank you all for being so great!!
The "Flesher" family has a chili cook-off bridal shower tradition! For a little background... Flesher is Jimmy's mother's maiden name. The Flesher's consist of Mimi (Grandma), Paka (Grandpa) and their three daughters... Kathy (Jimmy's mother), Mary, and Teresa.
How the cook-off works: Each MARRIED women is responsible for cooking a chili and bringing it to the "event" to be judged. For our cook-off we had a total of 6 chili's to judge. The cookers consisted of Mimi (Grandma), Kathy (Jimmy's mother), Mary (Jimmy's Aunt), Teresa (Jimmy's Aunt), Stephanie (Jimmy's Sister), and Mandie (Jimmy's Cousin) -- At the next shower I will be responsible for making a chili to be judged... Making a total of 7 chili's to be judged!! :)
This is such a GREAT and FUN tradition!!
How the judging works: The bride and groom to-be along with the brides parents will be blinded folded (to prevent cheating!!). One at a time they will be fed each chili to rate from 1-4 (4 being the best)!! Rating is done is secret and is whispered to a male not participating in the cook-off!! (This year my brother took and tallied the votes.)

The winner is given an engraved "Flesher Family Cook-Off" ladle!! This was the first year the Mimi had won and she was very excited!! :) She kept claiming that the event was "rigged" because she wasn't expecting to win!!

The shower was such a great event!! What a great tradition I get to become apart of!! Not to mention we were spoiled with some really good gifts also!! :) I can't wait until the next wedding so I can be on the "other side" of the event!!
